The Tampa Bay Times

In 2009 the St. Petersberg Times and TampaBay.com conducted a series of investigations and interviews covering the activities of the Church of Scientology. Most of the interviews involved the defections of high-profile church leaders, including Marty Rathbun, Amy Scobee, Shelly Corrias, and Gary Morehead. All of them testified, and continue to testify, to the totalitarian nature of the Church of Scientology leaders, as instigated by the current church head, David Miscaviage.

As of the time of the present writing, the Church of Scientology has since undergone additional turmoil and scrutiny, with the country of France successfully suing the Church of Scientology for perpetrating fraud ("French Branch of Scientology Convicted of Fraud"–New York Times, "French Scientology group convicted of fraud"–Los Angeles Times, French court fines Scientologists, allows operations–The Washington Post), as well as new defections from by other long-time members of the church. Below is the most recent video from Tampabay.com exposing what is perhaps the most controversial period in Church of Scientology history since the days nine church conspirators, led by Mary Sue Hubbard, were arrested and convicted for "conspiring the steal government documents, theft of government documents, burglarizing government offices, intercepting government communications, harbouring a fugitive, making false declarations before a grand jury and conspiring to obstruct justice."1
