Valentine’s Day Massacre in Florida

Paul Derengowski, ThM

Okay, let’s see if we can get this straight this time, since we keep getting so many opportunities.

Yesterday, another school shooting took place; this time in Florida.

Nicolas Cruz, the Murderer

I will not go through the details, but will simply state that a former student at a large High School decided to take up arms and mow down 17 of his former classmates and teachers.

Of course, all of the media pundits and armchair commentators were abuzz with their theories and analysis of the situation to make sure you, the viewer, were up-to-date on the latest “BREAKING NEWS!”

It would all be comical, if it were not all so tragic.

Grown adults falling all over each other, clamoring for a solution, when many of them with their faulty worldviews are the facilitators of that kind of shooting in the first place.

Oh, this was a mental illness problem.

Oh, this was a gun control problem.

Oh, this was a lack of school security problem.

How about, this is a heart problem?

After all, Jesus did say, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders” (Mt. 15:19).

Oh no, it could not possibly be that, because that is religious and what happened in Florida requires deep-seated investigation and “science” to answer the questions of “why?”

The reality is, what Jesus said was the truth and has nothing to do with religiosity.

America has a heart problem when it comes to school shootings and as long as we keep ignoring what Jesus has to say about the subject, the higher the body count will rise.

Murder starts in the heart, not the gun cabinet.

The day when public education decided to boot Jesus out the door was the day evil thoughts, murders, fornications, thefts, false witness, and slander became acceptable behavior.

Only the fool and the hypocrite would argue to the contrary.

So, until the heart condition that America is suffering from is addressed, from Jesus’ perspective, then all the idiotic clamor and hyperventilating over the next gun law or social program that needs to be implemented to stop the mayhem and murders in our public schools will amount to nothing more than more idiocy.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
